Il principio di funzionamento dell’SM-3 si basa su una tecnica completamente nuova: il cracking dei composti di mercurio e la riduzione del mercurio ionico contenuto nei gas di scarico vengono effettuati per via termocatalitica.
Si evita il trattamento chimico umido del gas campione con reagenti e gorgogliatori. La manutenzione e l’assistenza dell’SM-3 sono quindi estremamente facili.
